Join us for our 10th Climate Tech Meetup on March 6th featuring three Miami climate innovators from the Larta Institute cohort. Register here.Scroll through this climate tech database that connects the local climate ecosystem, from researchers to startups.
As sea and heat levels rise across Greater Miami, Opportunity Miami has leaned into the transition to a sustainable, net-zero economy to connect the region’s growing ecosystem of researchers, startups, and more.
If Miami has been dubbed the ground zero for the climate crisis, why not lean into Miami taking the lead in climate tech?
That is why we partnered with Miami-Dade County’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development to host climate tech meetups at the Miami-Dade Beacon Council to discuss everything from policies and grants and hear from those in the local climate tech space, from startups and VCs to government leaders.
We invite you to join us for our next one, our TENTH meetup, happening on March 6th at 10 AM. Register here for the event featuring three Miami climate innovators working towards innovating nature-based wetlands solutions, hydroponics and vertical farming, and increasing solar access.
The startups (Hyperlocal Farms, Phytoflora, and Solar United) are from the most recent Venture Fellows cohort of Larta Institute, a nonprofit accelerating science and technology innovation for a sustainable planet.
This aligns with Opportunity’s Miami focus on sustainability and the transition to a net-zero economy.
CLIMATE TECH HUB
Last fall, the federal government designated South Florida, led by Miami-Dade County, as a Climate Resilience Tech Hub – the only one focused on climate resilience. The designation supports innovation and scaling technologies focused on climate adaptation and mitigation, all while building a workforce to sustain them.
The designation is additionally important as it opens up new funding opportunities and support from federal agencies.
Not to mention the attention on South Florida as a resource and solutions-based hub for climate resilience.
“South Florida is uniquely positioned to become the global leader – rapidly – in delivering community-level climate technologies,” said Francesca de Quesada Covey, Chief Innovation and Economic Development Officer for Miami-Dade County. “Our exposure to weather and climate variations presents an existential threat, with more than $3.5T in assets exposed to sea-level rise inundation alone. Fortunately, multiple transformational technologies are ready to scale in South Florida, underpinned by a vibrant entrepreneurial class and ready workforce.”
CLIMATE TECH DATABASE
To connect South Florida’s growing climate tech ecosystem, Miami-Dade County and Opportunity Miami created this database that includes a collection of individuals and organizations working on climate solutions.
Explore the database for yourself and find most of the local climate tech-related resources all in one easy-to-use platform.
Climate entrepreneurs, investors, community activists, and policymakers are ready to join in the push to make South Florida resilient. This database is a tool to connect that ecosystem.
