At Opportunity Miami, we are focused on imagining and building our economic future. But this week, we wanted to share with you a way in which the Beacon Council is honoring the people and companies shaping our dynamic economy – right now.
The Beacon Awards returns this year to do just that and to mark The Beacon Council’s 40th anniversary.
Launched in 2002, the Beacon Awards honors the gamut of what makes Greater Miami a vibrant and dynamic economy – from global corporations to civic icons, and neighborhood-rooted startups.
The awards draw their DNA from One Community One Goal (OCOG) — the foundational plan that aligned Miami-Dade’s economic strategy, workforce goals, and educational partnerships.
That vision now continues as Opportunity Miami, the Beacon Council’s future-facing platform designed to bring together civic and business leaders, alongside the broader community, to address our region’s most pressing challenges and elevate the next generation of changemakers.
The Beacon Awards are now accepting applications for three award categories. You can apply here, or share the opportunity with a leader you think should be considered.
This year’s ceremony is especially meaningful. It marks the 40th anniversary of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the County’s official economic development partnership, founded in 1985 by Sidney Levin, Theodore Hoepner, and Merrett R. Stierheim. Sponsorship opportunities are now available.
