Since we launched three years ago, Opportunity Miami has focused on sustainability and resilience as a key pillar of our economic future. Transportation—a key driver of greenhouse gas emissions—has been at the heart of our efforts, as we work to transform how Miami moves, powers up, and paves the way for cleaner, greener growth.
It is also one of our region's biggest economic expansion opportunities. That is why our 14th climate tech meetup, in partnership with the County, will focus on EV infrastructure.
Join us on December 9th at The Miami-Dade Beacon Council to learn more about a countywide EV charging network, which will be fueled by a $4.7 million federal grant. The event will include an EV workforce roundtable to connect industry partners.
Miami-Dade County recently received the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation which will provide for nearly 400 additional charging ports at 73 community facilities such as libraries and parks. More than half of those stations will be in low to moderate-income neighborhoods.
“We’re creating an equitable network of EV charging stations so every Miami-Dade resident can reap the many benefits of electric vehicles,” Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a statement. Those benefits include more equitable use of EVs and cleaner air, she added.
Over these years we have featured companies and people focused on the transition to cleaner transportation by going electric. AmePower is a small tech and manufacturing company improving the efficiency and reliability of rail, electric vehicles, and military and industrial equipment. The Nature Conservancy released a study this summer that outlined a future where renewable energy and sustainable practices drive economic success. And just last week we introduced the startup E-Force Marine which is propelling the marine industry into electrification.
Florida ranks second nationwide in EV registrations, with Miami-Dade leading the state. As adoption surges, though, expanded charging infrastructure is essential. At Opportunity Miami, we’re championing this transformation to power a cleaner, electrified future across our community.
We hope you will join us on December 9th for the conversation and presentation around adopting and expanding EV infrastructure across Miami-Dade.
