With the belief that today’s challenges can unlock tomorrow’s opportunities, Opportunity Miami has engaged thousands of leaders, innovators, and changemakers since its launch in December 2021. We outlined some of the significant breakthroughs in our last newsletter of 2024, which you can read again here.
For 2025, we are setting our sights even higher.
Powered by the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, Opportunity Miami is a forward-thinking platform that tackles long-term challenges by focusing on three priorities: driving innovation and entrepreneurship, expanding talent and inclusion, and leading Miami’s transition to a net-zero, sustainable economy.
Here is a look at what’s ahead for us and for the economic and sustainable growth of Greater Miami:
DEFENSE GRANT
The Defense Reinvestment Grant is a bold step toward revitalizing Homestead’s economy and strengthening military communities. This initiative delivers cutting-edge resources, fosters impactful partnerships, and drives innovation, transforming challenges into opportunities and creating a blueprint for sustainable growth and resilience.
MORE IN-PERSON EVENTS
With a focus on climate, innovation and entrepreneurship, this year we will be hosting more in-person events so that our community of small business owners, startup founders, nonprofit leaders, government agencies and more can connect to discuss ways to tackle some of our most pressing issues.
One of those is innovation in healthcare and life sciences. On January 21st, please join us at The Beacon Council for a look at how scientists and public officials are bridging South Florida and France to advance the public’s well-being. This event will take place in partnership with the Consulate General of France in Miami. Register here.
As we drive entrepreneurship and innovation to help create well-paying jobs and further diversify the economy, Opportunity Miami is partnering with Miami-Dade County for a hands-on demonstration of how the Strive305 and Workforce Miami platforms can support small businesses. Register here for the Jan. 27th event at Beacon.
IMPACT FOCUS
We have rolled out our Opportunity Miami Impact series, which spotlights some of the people and companies shaping our economic, innovative, and sustainable future that we have featured on our platform and how that feature helped them build, grow, and make an impact.
The first Impact Focus spotlight was on Kind Designs, which received a $50,000 investment after our On Site video feature caught the attention of an angel investor, further connecting visionary projects with opportunities that create transformative change.
