What's next for Opportunity Miami
A message from Beacon Council CEO Rodrick Miller on the continued momentum with Opportunity Miami
I hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with the same excitement and optimism that we have here at Opportunity Miami.
Firstly, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing engagement with Opportunity Miami. As we imagine the Miami of 2040, your participation has helped us expand the dialog on the critical issues of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Talent & Inclusion, and Sustainability & Net-Zero. The resulting solutions that are gaining momentum are invaluable in driving positive change within our community.
Now, let's dive into some exciting updates regarding Opportunity Miami.
Under the visionary leadership of Matt Haggman, Opportunity Miami has become a centerpiece of The Beacon Council’s work. In just two years, through Opportunity Miami, The Beacon Council has expanded our work beyond our traditional transactional approach to growing the economy to addressing fundamental issues impacting our collective economic future. Our next phase will be focused on further integrating Opportunity Miami into the programmatic initiatives of The Beacon Council and working with private sector leadership to actively deliver on the ambitious goals that have been established.
CONTINUED MOMENTUM
Despite recent transitions, Opportunity Miami remains steadfast in its mission. We're maintaining our momentum by continuing with our core activities:
Weekly Newsletter: The latest on Greater Miami's economic future, delivered to your inbox every week.
On-Site Video Series: Showcasing local businesses, spaces, and people making a mark on Miami's economic future.
Podcast Interviews: Our show is about the entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and innovators who are solving the issues that will define Greater Miami's economic future.
Monthly Events: From our climate tech meetups to our conversation series, to our events in partnership with the Academic Leaders Council – we convene the community on the issues most critical to our future.
REGIONAL COLLABORATION
We continue to work closely with Miami-Dade County on the Climate Tech meetups and support the efforts they are leading with regional partners to secure funding for South Florida's ClimateReady Tech Hub. The Tech Hub designation was a major win for this region and if the pending funding comes through it will further catapult our innovation and growth in this sector. This represents one of the biggest economic opportunities we’ll likely have for a few generations and it requires ongoing super-regional, interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral collaboration to make it real. Please check out the database of individuals and organizations working on climate solutions to connect to South Florida's growing climate tech ecosystem.
PROMOTING TALENT DEVELOPMENT
Our recent efforts with the Academic Leaders Council announcing the Community-Wide Talent Development Goals underscore the importance of securing credentials in raising income levels and driving economic prosperity. With our Academic Leaders Council and Opportunity Miami Co-Chairs, we're actively translating the goal of 65% of Miami-Dade County residents with at least an associate’s degree by 2040 into actionable initiatives. Read the full 2040 talent goal report here.

We invite you to join us in furthering our mission by continuing to check out our upcoming podcasts, events, and other thought leadership. Together, we will continue to make great strides toward a more vibrant and inclusive Miami.
